The reminder post cards have been mailed out and the registration site is officially open for this year’s Gobble Wobble Race on Thanksgiving Day, November 27. Be sure to register before the deadline: Saturday, November 22.
Last year 1,144 runners and walkers officially complete the annual Thanksgiving Day 5K event in Buhl Park. The dusting of snow did not discourage the dedicated runners and walkers of the Shenango Valley. Hundreds of spectators lined the park supporting race participants. As usual, there were quite a few runners and walkers who donned festive Thanksgiving attire. Many turkey hats were spotted at the race. There were even several turkeys, Pilgrims and Indians at the park with their running shoes on. Enjoy the photos posted from last year’s race, available on the photo menu at the top of the blog.
Looking forward to seeing another enthusiastic crowd in Buhl Park on Thanksgiving morning.
The Shenango Conservancy thanks everyone who supported the 2013 Gobble Wobble. We had a fantastic turn out with 1,142 people crossing the finish line on a very COLD Thanksgiving morning. The results are posted on Smiley Miles site – link on the results tab at the top of our website.
A big Thank You to all the volunteers that helped with the race, beginning with Mike Derrick who designed our online registration site and ending with the many people who braved the cold to assist with race day registration, shirt sales, starting line set up, coffee and popcorn making, distribution of awards and post race clean up. A special thank you to the staff at Buhl Park and the Buhl Park Rangers for directing traffic on a frigid Thanksgiving morning, our financial sponsor, Greenville Savings Bank, Dean Dairy for the post-race water and orange drink, McGonigles Ambulance Service, Steve’s Teez, and the Evans Garvey, Lackey & Ochs law firm for their administrative support. This race would not be possible without the efforts of many folks who continue to show up Thanksgiving week to pull everything together.
This year’s race photos are posted on the photos link. Thanks to Bob Malaniak for taking photos throughout the morning. You are sure to enjoy them – hope you can find yourself in a photo!
See you next year.

With over 1,300 preregistered and a beautiful snowy Buhl Park, we’re expecting a great kick-off to the holiday! Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
We have been getting requests for a sneak peek at this year’s shirt – pictured is race director, Gary Lackey with this year’s race shirt. Dennis has been busy working on the shirt, and he’s produced another design that is sure to be a race favorite!
Online registration has been a huge success – over 1,100 folks have registered so far and we still have another week before registration closes. It should be a terrific turn out this year. Thanksgiving morning is always an adventure to the loyal runners who support the Gobble Wobble. See you at Buhl Park!
Welcome to this year’s Gobble Wobble. With 2013, the 26th running of the turkeys, we are evolving with the times. This year’s registration is now available on-line.
Thanks to all of you, the Gobble Wobble has grown to a race that is no longer easily handled by our family. Last year we pre-registered over 1000 participants. That’s a lot of hours spent in front of an Excel spreadsheet during many a mid-November evening on Hann Hill!
On-line registration will eliminate all of the last minute mailing of applications and people wondering if we received your entry, and also the cumbersome check handling process.
So we hope you give our on-line registration a go. We think you will find it easier than the old application process. Online registration closes on Sunday, November 24, 2013. To get started, click the link below:
The 25th annual Gobble Wobble is history, results are posted on the Smiley Miles website, the link is available on the Results tab above. Thanks to all the volunteers who make this race such a huge success. Once again there were 1500+ participants who enjoyed a beautiful Thanksgiving morning in Buhl Park.
All 3 Loyal Turkey’s were in attendance; Tony Sunseri, Pete Olshavsky and Kathy Shoaf have run all 25 of the Gobble Wobble races!
Race director Gary Lackey and Steve Campbel of Steve’s Teez model the 2012 Gobble Wobble shirt
The 2012 Gobble Wobble shirts are officially here! Remember that the only way to guarantee that you’ll get one is to pre-order them and that the shirts are not included in your registration fee. Shirts are $14 if pre-ordered and $18 on race day. Check the application for more information.
New design for race medals this year!
Medals this year will match the tee shirt design – a nice change for those of you that have several medals with the turkey wearing running shoes.
Medals are given out to the top six finishers for both women (Hens) and men (Toms) as well as for first, second, and third for Hens and Toms in each age group. The age groups are: Seven & under, 8-11, 12-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-69, 70+ (Hens only), 70-79 (Toms only), 80+ (Toms only).
This image will be featured on the front of our 25th gobble wobble race shirt. Tee shirt color is “Texas Orange”, very much like pumpkin pie – yum. Details on the shirts will be posted soon.
This year is the Shenango Conservancy’s 25th Annual Gobble Wobble. The race will be run in Buhl Park on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday November 22. The application is now available by clicking the “Application” tab above. We look forward to seeing a big crowd at the race, last year over 1,480 people finished the race – it would be great to top 1,500 this year.
Now that the 2011 Gobble Wobble is history, the results link is updated to reflect this year’s race results from Smiley Miles. This year 1,479 participants officially finished the race, with many others joining in on the fun. The race timer estimated that over 1,600 runners and walkers completed the race. As usual, many of the runner’s donned turkey hats or festive costumes, transforming this unique race into a Thanksgiving celebration. As the year’s go by it seems the Gobble Wobble is the perfect reunion spot for friends returning to the Valley to gather on Thanksgiving morning. It certainly is a great way to start the holiday season.
The Gobble Wobble’s three “Loyal Turkeys” (pictured above) were all in attendance this year, making an appearance at all 24 of the Gobble Wobbles – Impressive!
